Bulawayo tennis players to take part in Botswana ITF tourney

FOUR Bulawayo-based players are set to take part in the Gaborone International Tennis Federation (ITF) Futures junior tournament at the end of this month.

The ITF Futures tournament will run from February 20-28 in the Botswana capital.

The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has permitted the resumption of training activities in preparation for the event.

Three boys, Zamani Moyo, Shane Tapera and Lyle Zalumois, as well as one girl, Munashe Bera, will represent the country in the tournament.

“We are getting started this week (to train), but it’s a little late because the tournament is in two weeks and the guys will not have reached their peak in terms of fitness.

“But it’s just good to get started,” said Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Tennis Board (BMPTB) chairman Tarwira Chikunichikwa.

Tennis Zimbabwe has also started preparations for the Davis Cup team, which is set to play China in September.

“The tournament had initially been scheduled for March, but due to the seconds wave of Covid-19, the ITF has asked us to move the tourney to September,” said Tennis Zimbabwe. — @innocentskizoe
