BULAWAYO will host the National Culture Month main celebrations on May 21, with many from around the country expected to converge in the city to celebrate Zimbabwe’s rich cultural heritage and diversity.

The announcement was made by Acting Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Mangaliso Ndlovu, who is also the Industry and Commerce Minister, after the Cabinet meeting held yesterday.

Zimbabwe observes National Culture Month throughout May, spearheaded by the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe to promote its cultural diversity and heritage.

The launch coincides with Unesco’s World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, commemorated annually on May 21.

The 2026 celebrations will run under the theme: “Diversity and creativity: Advancing Vision 2030 through cultural expressions.”

Minister Ndlovu said the National Culture Month celebrations for this year would be held in Bulawayo.

“Cabinet noted and approved the planned National Culture Month activities for May 2026, which were presented by the Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities as the Acting Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Professor Paul Mavima,” he said.

“The 2026 National Culture Month celebrations will be held on May 21, 2026, at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo.”

The commemorations would celebrate, preserve and showcase the country’s diverse heritage.

“The commemorations will celebrate, preserve and showcase the country’s diverse heritage while fostering social cohesion, unity and economic development through arts and culture,” said Minister Ndlovu.

The national celebrations, he added, will feature live performances by selected traditional and contemporary dance and musical groups, as well as comedians.

Minister Ndlovu said there will be month-long activities held across all provinces and districts of the country that encompass dance, music, film, theatre, literary arts, poetry, traditional cuisines, the First Lady’s Nhanga/Gota/Ixhiba dialogue sessions, as well as pageantry and fashion.
