DJS Kead Wikead, Nospar and Kananjo will represent Bulawayo at the Miller Genuine Draft Soundclash national finals scheduled for Harare this weekend where they will battle it out with 10 other DJs for the national crown.
After the national finals, a gala event will be held on June 21 at the Glass House in Harare. Zimbabwe’s best DJ will rub shoulders with some of South Africa’s finest DJs including Fresh, Euphonik, Spectacular and artistes Knaves and Khuli Chana.
If one of them wins the national finals they will represent Zimbabwe at The global Miller Music Tour set for August 22 to 26 and play alongside 100 of the world’s top DJs at Marquee Club, Las Vegas.
The road to the national finals started two weeks ago when DJ Kananjo beat DJ Prince at Club Eden to book his place in the finals.
Last Friday, the battle was taken to the Lounge where DJ Kead Wikead overcame DJs Mark Vusani and Vulcan in the second Miller Soundclash.
The last spot was taken by DJ Nospar on Saturday night where he overcame DJ Theo at Horizon Pub and Grill.
The Miller DJ Soundclash is open to any DJ in the country over the age of 25 and also runs on Star FM every Friday between 7PM and 7.30PM.
In the Friday clash, DJ Kead Wikead drew the first lot and got down to business and showed his mental strength and turntable skills.
It was a case of who was better between Kead Wikead and Mark Vusani, as the latter took a risk and used three turn tables for his 10 minute set. DJ Vulcan was nowhere near the competition during his set and was immediately forgotten the moment he left the DJ’s booth.
The judges comprise Gibson Ncube and DJ Cooperman, had a difficult time choosing the eventual winner as they had to look at showmanship, track selection, beat matching and promotion of the miller brand.
After winning, DJ Kead Wikead said: “I am happy that I won but it is unfortunate I had to beat my mentor Mark Vusani. In Bulawayo when you talk of legends of the DJ game you have to mention Mark Vusani and Mellow T, among others.”
Kead Wikead said he was up for the challenge in Harare as he was more than ready.
“Performing or being a DJ is something that I do every weekend, it is in my blood. I do not prefer any type of music but for me music is music. I will play any music for any crowd at any location,” he said.
