A 66-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo woman who assaulted her cousin with a crutch following a dispute over a house, escaped a custodial sentence after the court imposed a wholly suspended four-month jail term.
Karen Lusinga was convicted on her own plea of guilty to physical abuse when she appeared before Western Commonage magistrate, Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube.

She was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for three years on condition that she does not commit a similar offence within that period.

Prosecuting, Ms Cathrine Kuzu told the court that on December 5 at about 4PM, the complainant, Ms Zenzile Ndlela (62), visited the accused at her residence in Emganwini suburb.

“Upon her arrival, Ndlela asked about the ownership of a house in Entumbane, which she believed was registered in her mother’s name,” said Ms Kuzu.

The court heard that the inquiry angered Lusinga, who assaulted Ndlela with a crutch, striking her once on the left arm and once on the right arm.

Ndlela sustained bruises on both arms and later sought medical attention.
The assault was reported to the police, leading to Lusinga’s arrest.
