Bulawayo woman jailed for abusing stepchildren

A 29-year-old Bulawayo woman who abused her stepchildren was recently sentenced to 24 months in prison, with five months suspended on condition that she does not commit a similar offense.

According to a statement by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) the woman, who was not named for professional reasons, was arraigned before the Western Commonage Magistrates’ Court facing charges of contravening the Children’s Act.

“On 11 June 2024, the accused person (29) assaulted her stepson (5) and stepdaughter (3) all over their bodies, using an unidentified object. The second complainant sustained bruises on the neck and body as well as a broken hand,” reads the statement.
