A new community-driven networking initiative aimed at combating social isolation among women while fostering friendship, collaboration and economic empowerment is set to debut in Bulawayo next month.
Dubbed SpeedFriending, the event will bring together women from diverse backgrounds for meaningful conversations and relationship-building opportunities designed to strengthen social ties and create pathways for personal and professional growth.
The event, organised by KoAfrique, will be held on July 4 from 11am to 3pm in Khumalo suburb, Bulawayo.
Speaking in a statement, KoAfrique Marketing and Public Relations Officer, Thandekile Nkomo, said the initiative seeks to create an inclusive platform where women can connect, share experiences and build lasting relationships.
“SpeedFriending is a community-driven networking event designed to connect women across Bulawayo through meaningful conversations and relationship-building,” said Nkomo.
She said the initiative goes beyond social interaction by creating opportunities for mentorship, business networking and knowledge sharing among participants.
“The initiative is promoting friendship, collaboration and personal development while addressing social isolation among women.
“By bringing together women from diverse backgrounds, the event creates opportunities for mentorship, business networking and knowledge sharing,” she said.
Nkomo said participants would have the opportunity to explore new markets, establish partnerships and identify employment opportunities through the connections made during the event.
“Participants can discover new markets, partnerships and employment opportunities through the connections they make. The event also supports local vendors, service providers and small businesses, contributing to economic activity within the city,” she said.
She added that stronger social networks play an important role in improving mental wellbeing, confidence and community engagement among women.
“Women are empowered to share resources, skills and opportunities that foster financial independence.
“Over time, these networks can lead to the creation of women-led enterprises and community projects. Ultimately, SpeedFriending contributes to both social cohesion and sustainable socio-economic growth in Bulawayo,” said Nkomo.
The initiative comes at a time when community organisations and social enterprises are increasingly focusing on creating safe spaces for women to connect, collaborate and support one another in both personal and professional spheres.
