26-year-old girl from Mpopoma in Bulawayo has set herself on a mission to spread hope in her society through podcasting.

Annah Thandeka Maseko (26) has a podcast called the Real podcast, which mainly covers issues affecting the society, religion and culture.  The podcast has covered themes such as passion, consistency, relationship, forgiveness and skills that the youths can use to empower themselves.

“My passion for speaking made me start a podcast as I was once bullied during secondary school, which became an emotional turmoil, which made me eager to stand up and be a voice to the voiceless,” said Maseko.

She said she started podcasting in 2019 during the COVID-19 era. Maseko said through podcasting she can do story telling, which is aimed at creating hope for Young people who are facing difficult circumstances.

“Through storytelling, I encourage my audiences to work on a specific skill or talent that they are good at as I invite guests to the show who share their background, journey and the hardships they faced before becoming successful. Podcasting has given me confidence, fluency in speaking and creativity in addressing particular issues. However, podcasting needs one to have a lot of data bundles because it’s all about audio and I may have two guests having a conversation for almost an hour in each episode,” she said.

Maseko said the message she has for young people is that it is never too late to start, the skills and talents they have may take them to places.

“My message to the world is the quote by Mahatma Gandhi that is “be the change that you wish to see in the world”, as I encourage people to use the little God has given them and they will excel. My vision for the future is to have my podcast on a bigger platform and reach more people with the intention to empower people to be eager to achieve their dreams no matter the hardships they face,” she said.
