WHILE most 18-year-olds are losing sleep over A-Level mock examinations and university applications, Bulawayo’s Liora Music is demonstrating that it is possible to balance academic demands with a budding music career.
The “City of Kings” songstress is maintaining strong momentum, signalling she has no intention of slowing down following the release of a high-energy new single produced by South African heavyweight Blaq Major.
Fresh from the success of her debut single, Ngathemba Wena, which resonated with audiences earlier this year, Liora Music has returned with a new track titled Othandweni kuyaphileka. This time, she has collaborated with Blaq Major, known for producing the hit Sdakiwe Sbali, on a song that is already gaining traction on social media platforms.
The collaboration emerged through a digital connection rather than traditional industry channels. Blaq Major discovered Liora’s Ngathemba Wena on TikTok and was immediately impressed by her vocal ability. This led to direct communication between the two artists and, ultimately, a cross-border musical partnership.
After receiving a production characterised by deep, emotive and rhythmically engaging elements from Blaq Major, Liora Music identified an immediate creative alignment.
Speaking to Saturday Leisure following the release of the track on Thursday, the young artiste expressed her enthusiasm about working with the award-winning producer.
“It was amazing because Blaq Major is such a humble person. The outcome of the final piece was incredible. He is truly a lovely person to work with,” Liora shared
For Liora, music extends beyond entertainment, serving as a medium to convey relatable messages. Othandweni kuyaphileka reflects a theme centred on love and emotional renewal.
“The song is about giving love a second chance. It’s about the idea that love is a sanctuary for all of us, as long as you find the right person at the right time,” she said.
The thematic depth of her music reflects a level of maturity that contrasts with her age, suggesting a thoughtful and deliberate artistic approach.
Based in Bulawayo and signed under Bongo Love Music International, Liora Music is managing the dual pressures of A-Level studies and an emerging music career. Despite a demanding schedule, she remains focused, drawing inspiration from South African artiste Thatohatsi.
Looking ahead, the young vocalist is preparing to release her debut extended play (EP) titled Imizwa nothando (Feelings and Love), expected later this year.
She indicated that the project will feature songs heavily, “laced with love stories,” as she continues to establish herself as one of Zimbabwe’s most promising new talents.
With additional singles in development and academic examinations approaching, Liora Music is positioning herself as a rising voice in the country’s music industry, steadily building her profile while maintaining her educational commitments. — Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
