HE is the brains behind the most famous hits by Bulawayo’s up-and-coming artistes. Here is a music producer who has honed the skills of the likes of Willis Wataffi who he helped to produce his Harare track, Khuxman on his Ababulali track, Poy’s album, Kasi Lunatics, Babongile Skhonjwa’s HIV/Aids project and TKP album branding.
There is no denying that this producer, DJ Wesley Tapiwa Sibanda, also known as DJ Wexey Love, is Bulawayo’s own Oskido.

His mission is to promote local artistes by facilitating the signing of contracts between the artistes and his Afro Platinum Music Company based in South Africa.

Saturday Leisure caught up with DJ Wexey Love at his Maj Studio in the city. He revealed that there was a lot in store for all young artistes who are willing to work with him.

“So far I have had a successful project with Kasi Princess (TKP) and last year she managed to launch her house kwaito album at Horizon. I also signed her for Afro Platinum Music and she will grow big especially in South Africa because she is marketed there by this company,” said Sibanda.

The 23-year-old DJ says there was a lot of talent in Bulawayo and hopes to work with various song writers and local artistes.
“Right now I’m in the studio with a new kid, Romanick and we are working on a new genre called Sungura House. I have realised that there is huge competition in the market and I need to be innovative,” he said.

Sibanda broke into the music industry three years ago, with a house kwaito track, Dollar. He worked with Three Kings and since then he has never looked back.

“To survive in this music industry as a DJ, one has to do music production. I have produced my new track called Chikotapeya, which fuses South African House music and Zimbabwean sungura. I’m calling this genre Sungura House,” said Sibanda.

He also revealed that some famous DJs from StarFM have sampled his track and fell in love with it though it was still in its production stage.

“Some radio DJ fell in love with my latest track and wanted to play my track on air before release. I however promised him that he will be the first to play it on air as soon as it was done,” said Sibanda.

For the coming months, Sibanda would be in Mozambique on a tour. He revealed that he is going to “drop” his latest track there because Romanick, the new kid he worked with, sings in Portuguese.
