THE fight against cancer continues to garner more support, with Bulawayo affirming its support, with a thundering roar that shook the heavens, as the city played host to the inaugural Fashion Designers Expo dubbed Fashion Fights Cancer.

The expo was held last Saturday at the Nesbitt Castle and attracted a multi-racial crowd, consisting of people who either suffer from cancer or are affected by the disease.

The director and founder of the expo, Aisha DeBeer said the expo was a huge success.

“We were fully booked —sold out the day before event . . . so on the day we had to add a few more chairs. The support was tremendous. The event was outstanding, a lot of people cried in our tribute section,” she said.

Aiish as she is warmly known for her clothing line said the event had garnered so much support from local businesses and individuals that they had already begun plans on holding the second edition next year.

“I have booked for 5 August 2017 (the date my grandmother passed away from cancer) a good day to give hope,” she said.
The event managed to raise $1 000, which would be donated to charity in the fight against cancer.

Aiish added that there will be a DVD of the event and it will be availed soon.

“We are getting a video done which is ready. Just putting on DVD and will be available to buy for $5,” she said.

Aiish also said she was grateful for the support from Bulawayo and hoped that the fight against cancer would never be lost.

“The pageant was not only to fight cancer but a platform to give those affected by it a ray of hope as the battle continues. Also the event was to give young and upcoming designers exposure to the world. As Fashion Designers Expo Zimbabwe “Fashion Fights Cancer” we will spread hope and inspiration to the nation,” she said.
