CONSTRUCTION of science laboratories in Bulilima District, Matabeleland South province has started as part of legacy projects ahead of the province hosting the 2026 National Independence Day celebrations.

In Bulilima District, four science laboratories are under construction and these are situated at secondary schools namely Tjemahale, Mazwaligwe, Gwambe and Nlongwe.

The Government is constructing 40 science laboratories at secondary schools across Matabeleland South Province as part of legacy projects.

The laboratories are part of a broader education-sector development programme aimed at strengthening Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (Stem) education, particularly in remote and underserved rural communities that have long lacked adequate facilities.

The initiative falls under President Mnangagwa’s broader drive to modernise school infrastructure and promote science and technology education as key pillars of national development.

On Friday, Bulilima Constituency legislator Cde Dingumuzi Phuti toured Tjemahale Secondary School science laboratory where a foundation has been dug and due to the soil conditions is undergoing filling of rocks before the footing slab is constructed.

The visit is part of Cde Phuti’s regular consultative meetings in villages across the constituency which he conducts as part of efforts to assess development needs in order to ensure effective service delivery.
