VILLAGERS in Nyabane Village, Ward One in Bulilima East have come together to build a clinic with the help of the diaspora community.
People from the village and other surrounding areas are walking about 20km to Sikhathini Clinic.
The idea to build their own clinic was mooted in 2019 and since then they have been mobilising resources with the assistance of their children in the diaspora.
The headman overseeing the project Mr Moses Luphahla said there are 17 headmen from 17 villages who are involved in the project.
“Each headman has been tasked to provide 4 000 bricks and work has started. The area where the clinic will be constructed has been fenced and the foundation has been dug,” said Mr Luphala.
The secretary of the Nyabane Clinic project, Ms Siphiwe Ncube said they are targeting to finish the first building by mid next year.
“The clinic serving us now is too far and as such sick people die before getting assistance. Expectant mothers are forced to camp at the clinic for a week or two,” said Ms Ncube.
She said one of the villagers who is a qualified builder, Mr Conelius Mpofu has offered to build the clinic for very little payment.
“I decided to build this clinic for very little payment because it is also my clinic. My children and grandchildren will also enjoy the services of this clinic,” he said.
