BY-ELECTIONS to fill three vacant council seats for Bulilima Rural District Council in Matabeleland South Province will be held on September 3.
In a statement, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) chief executive officer Mr Utoile Silaigwana said the nomination courts to receive papers for candidates who want to contest the three seats will sit on August 2 at Bulilima RDC offices.
The three vacancies arose after the resignation of two councillors and death of one.
“It is hereby notified that in terms of Section 121A of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13), that following resignations of Mlotshwa Tonny and Dube Ntungamili and the death of Mabhena Delani who were councillors for wards 1, 14 and 16 of Bulilima Rural District Council, vacancies have arisen in the said wards,” wrote Mr Silaigwana.
He said the nomination court for receiving nominations of candidates for election of councillors will sit on August 2 from 10AM to 4PM at Bulilima RDC offices.
The three councillors belonged to the ruling Zanu-PF party which controls the council with 21 councillors while the opposition has one ward.
The country has held a number of by-elections following the lifting of ban on public gatherings due to Covid-19 restrictions.
The first were held in March to fill seats which had arisen due to recalls of mainly opposition parliamentarians and councillors as well as deaths.
