BULLDOGS RUGBY CLUB are appealing for financial assistance, after four of their players from the Bulawayo Metropolitan Rugby Football Board (BMRFB) Archer Clothing Under-20 League were selected for the Zimbabwe  Under-18 squad, set to tour South Africa.

The club requires US$450 —US$150 per player — to help cover the travel expenses of three of the selected youngsters. The four Bulldogs players chosen for national duty are Fortune Crocco, Diana Dzingai, Monalisa Ncube and Angel Katsongo.

The club has pledged to support parents, who are struggling to raise the necessary funds.

“Some of our players come from disadvantaged backgrounds, and as a club, we saw the need to nurture their talents by providing training and covering transport costs to and from sessions and matches. Now, the biggest push is to help them showcase their talent on an international stage. It is humbling for us as a club to see our players rise to the occasion, playing rugby and earning national recognition.

“As such, we are appealing to well-wishers to assist these youngsters in seizing this opportunity. It’s a life-changing experience and who knows — they might be spotted and offered a chance to further both their rugby and academic careers overseas. This is a heartfelt appeal to everyone, to help get these kids to South Africa,” said Bulldogs Rugby Club chairperson, Ndumiso Tshuma.

The players are expected to travel to South Africa on Saturday, but must first report to Harare to join the rest of the camp.

“We apologise for the short notice, but opportunities like this don’t come often. Now that it has arrived, we want these players to grab it with both hands,” Tshuma said.

On their way to claiming this year’s Under-20 title, Bulldogs delivered an unbeaten campaign. — @brandon_malvin
