THE Nedbank Premier Netball League has taken a well earned three week breather following a high octane two-day bubble in Mutare that left fans on the edge of their seats and cemented Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) Queens as the undisputed queens of the court.
ZDF Queens maintained their unbeaten streak, showcasing sheer dominance and tactical brilliance throughout the bubble matches. They remain perched at the top of the log, further establishing themselves as this season’s team to beat.
Their flawless run in Mutare featured emphatic wins, including a 64–27 thrashing of Brace Queens, a commanding 88–28 victory over Aspindale, a 76–21 demolition of Beitbridge Stars, a tough 47–37 win against Harare City, and a 52–44 triumph over a spirited Chapungu side.
In the individual accolades, Christine Kamuchacha of Harare District and Blessing Marombo of Chapungu Queens, were named best players for their outstanding performances over the two-day spectacle.
Harare District also made a powerful statement, winning all four of their matches with precision and unity that left the Sakubva crowd, which turned out in numbers, thoroughly entertained. They dispatched hosts Mutare City 50–32, defeated Imbizo 55–44, edged past Bikita Minerals 40–31 and steamrolled Mutasa Falcons 67–11.
Chapungu and Makate High Flyers showed fight but ultimately faltered against stronger opposition.
League spokesperson, Innocent Ndiya praised the players and fans alike for contributing to an unforgettable experience, noting that the bubble was not only competitive, but also rich in sportsmanship.
“Despite the intensity of the matches, the bubble was marked by great sportsmanship. As the league pauses, teams will regroup and return stronger,” Ndiya said.
The break will give the sides a chance to rest, re-strategise, and prepare for what promises to be a fiercely contested second half of the season. With momentum shifting and underdogs rising, the race to the top remains wide open.
The league resumes in three weeks, and fans can expect more action, drama and dazzling netball.
