Bumper deal for Khama @ Sundowns

BAD luck or what?

Khama Billiat is arguably the most skillful player in South Africaas ABSA premiership. Last year he showed the whole of Africa what kind of a player he is but failed to attract international attention.

It was hoped that he would show wonders at the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Gabon in January. Yes, he showed signs of brilliance wearing that Zimbabwe Warriors jersey but still, the dream move passed him by.

So much bad luck for a player voted the second best in Africa for 2016.

Many speculated that he would come back in 2017 as a top earner in the Absa premiership for a consolation.

However, that again wonat be the case.

Media reports in South Africa recently claimed that the Brazilians are working on a five-year revised deal for Billiat that will come with a rich pay cheque.

But Sundowns disagree with the reports.

The star playeras current contract runs out at the end of 2018.

a?Itas unfortunate that those media reports are not seeking our side of the story. They are just unfounded stories. He is one of our star players but we have not talked about any deal that will make him the highest paid player,a? Mamelodi Sundowns communications coordinator Thulani Thuswa told B-Metro Sport by telephone from South Africa.

Asked in an interview with this publication in August last year if they were willing to let the footie star join a club outside Mzansi, Thuswa said:

a?We are not desperate to sell Khama. He is still a Mamelodi Sundowns player and there is no formal offer that has come our way. If any club is interested him, they should show some level of seriousness by making a formal approach.a?

Billiat has been a key figure for Sundowns and his football artistry and wizardry helped Pitso Mosimaneas men clinch the ABSA Premiership and the CAF Champions League.

He is also the reigning ABSA Premiership Footballer of the Year. Billiatas exploits have reportedly attracted interest from foreign clubs but no concrete offers have been madeA with his R25 million buyout clause proving to be the main stumbling block.

The Zimbabwean is likely to end his chances of playing in the big European leagues if he commits to Amasandawana when and if the club tables a new offer.

The Zimbabwean attacker is said to have caught the attention of a number of French sides, with Lille reportedly very interested.

Billiat has often been linked with a move to Europe, and after enjoying his best season in the Absa Premiership, the time to make the trip to the northern hemisphere may be now.

Right now, the pint-sized forward is valued at a1 million (roughly R16 million), according to Transfermarkt.
