ASHLEY BURDETT has been handed the captaincy of the Zimbabwe team at the African Women Cricket Championship set for next month in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.  The Championship has been slated for December 13-16 and will have six countries taking part.  Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and hosts Tanzania are the countries competing in this year’s event.

Team Zimbabwe are expected to be in camp in Harare next week.
Team manager Caroline Nyamande said the women will be in camp from December 1 up to the day of their departure.

“We are excited about this event. This will be our first time to play at the tournament and we believe it will be good for us to attend because all the African teams that participate in the Africa qualifiers will be there.

“The tournament promises to be competitive but we trust our girls. They have already started training to ensure that we bring good results.

“We are going to be in camp next month and I am sure we will be able come up with a good squad,” said Nyamande
Currently, the cricketers are playing club cricket.

“We are definitely going to come up with a good team of 14 players and I am sure we will do well. The only country which will give us tough competition will be South Africa,” said Nyamande.
