A BULAWAYO burglar had a lucky escape after a homeowner spotted him on CCTV and opened fire, sending two bullets through a bedroom door as the intruder tried to force his way inside.
The drama unfolded at around 2am on September 18 while the 34-year-old complainant was asleep.
According to Zimbabwe Republic Police Bulawayo deputy spokesperson Assistant Inspector
Thandekile Ndlovu, the unidentified suspect allegedly jumped over the property’s durawall before forcing open a laundry window with an unidentified object.
The suspect allegedly gained entry into the house and picked up a bunch of keys, which he used to open the main door.
Ndlovu said the homeowner later spotted the intruder on CCTV attempting to force open a bedroom door.
“The complainant then took a Norinco pistol, and fired two shots through the closed wooden door in an attempt to shoot the accused person in the legs, but missed him,” said Ndlovu.
The suspect allegedly fled through the main door, jumped over the durawall and disappeared into the night.
A police report was subsequently made and investigations are underway.
