A BULAWAYO soccer fan was left counting the cost after thieves allegedly made off with his Honda Fit while he was inside a Northend bar engrossed in the match.
The 38-year-old Northend resident parked his silver Honda Fit outside a bar at Northend Shops at about 5.26pm on September 20 before heading inside to watch soccer.
But barely 80 minutes later, his car had vanished.
Police said the vehicle had been locked, although one of its doors could not be properly secured because of a faulty central locking system.
Bulawayo police deputy spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu said the car had about six litres of petrol in the tank.
“The owner remained inside the bar watching the match, unaware that his vehicle was allegedly being targeted.
“At about 6.45pm, he walked out of the bar, only to discover that his Honda Fit was gone,” said the police spokesperson.
He reported the theft to the police.
The stolen vehicle, including the petrol, was valued at US$5 012.
Nothing had been recovered by the time the matter was reported.
Police are investigating.
