BURGLARS allegedly broke into a supermarket in Bulawayo’s Mpopoma suburb and got away with goods worth more than $700.
Sources told The Chronicle that thieves gained entry into Flytex Investment Supermarket at around 10PM on Tuesday.
They allegedly took goods from the shelves.
The manager of Flytex Investment supermarket, Tinashe Bongo, told The Chronicle that he found the supermarket door open on Wednesday morning.
“I left the shop at exactly 9PM and I locked the door. On Wednesday morning I found the door open. I was shocked,” said Bongo.
“They took $20 which was in the till. Goods which they got away with include rice, cosmetics, sugar and weaves”.
He said he reported the matter to the police.
Bongo said there are no security guards at the shops.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango said investigations into the burglary were underway.
“I confirm that we received a case of unlawful entry and theft that happened at Mpopoma shops where goods worth $700 were stolen.
Investigations are in progress,” said Insp Simango.
Last week, burglars broke into Richmond Spar and got away with more than $10,000 in cash.
Last month, robbers pounced on six Bulawayo schools and got away with cash and goods worth more than $4,000.
