A special envoy from Burkina Faso yesterday paid a courtesy call on Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa at his New Government Complex office to brief him on the prevailing situation in that country. Minister of Territorial Administration, Decentralisation, Security and Civil Protection Colonel Denise Auguste Barry arrived in Zimbabwe last week to attend the 8th Ordinary Meeting of the African Union Ministers of Defence, Peace and Security in the resort town of Victoria Falls.

Speaking to journalists after meeting Vice President Mnangagwa, Col Barry said he took the opportunity of his presence in the country to apprise the Zimbabwe leadership of the progress of the transitional process in Burkina Faso.

“You know that since last October the people decided by insurrection to make a change in the government and leadership in our country.

“The transitional process to elections is going forward. So to us, President Mugabe is president of the African Union. It was an opportunity for me to come and brief him.”

Col Barry said Zimbabwe and Burkina Faso enjoy cordial relations, which he said should be cemented.

“We need to strengthen our co-operation and I think by this visit and those that will come, we will try to do our best to strengthen the bilateral relations,” he said.
