A COUPLE from Burnside suburb in Bulawayo was subjected to an hour of torture by two balaclava-clad armed robbers who allegedly robbed them of US$1800.
The robbers were armed with an iron bar and a knife while putting on balaclavas and wearing dark sunglasses. A family member who spoke to B-Metro said the robbers attacked William Rose and his wife Laetitia Rose on Monday, at their family property.
The couple was sleeping in their bedroom when William heard footsteps in the yard. He woke up and dashed outside to check out who was walking in his yard.
“Upon opening the door he was severely slapped on the face. One of the robbers stormed into the room and went straight to the bedroom where he throttled Laetitia while demanding money,” said the source.
The other robber threatened to stab William and pushed him inside the house. He walked him to his bedroom where his wife was pinned down. They allegedly tortured them for close to an hour while demanding cash and threatening to kill them.
“They finally gave them US$1800. After that they fled,” said the source.
William later reported the incident at Hillside Police Station. Bulawayo Police Spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.
“We would like to warn members of the public from putting their lives at risk by getting out of the house during the night. They should phone the neighbourhood watch committee or alert other community members in the community WhatsApp group,” he said.
