Bus crash kills 53 in Ghana

At least 53 people have lost their lives and nearly two dozen other been injured in a deadly car accident in northern Ghana.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening some 420 km (260 miles) north of Ghana’s capital of Accra when a bus, en route to the northern town of Tamale, collided with a truck head-on.

“Many of the passengers on the bus died on the spot,” said regional police chief Maxwell, adding that about 23 others were injured and were being treated at a local hospital.

Atingane said the cause of the accident was not determined yet, but could have been a mechanical failure on the bus.

Hours after the incident, Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama expressed grave concern in a series of tweets, consoling with the families of the deceased. — PressTV.
