Bus crashes into tollgate cabin

Three zinara employees were injured on Wednesday when a bus crashed into a into a cabin in which they were seated at a tollgate after its brakes failed.The accident occurred at the tollgate along the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway. The employees sustained injuries and were rushed to Masvingo General Hospital after the cabin was destroyed by the bus belonging to Locroy Bus Services.

It was carrying 44 passengers on its way from South Africa to Harare.

Acting Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nkululeko Nduna said the zinara employees were treated and discharged.

“The braking system of the bus failed as it was approaching the tollgate near Chivi turn off and the driver crashed into a cabin where three zinara employees were seated, resulting in them sustaining injuries,’’ he said.

Asst Insp Nduna said the driver of the bus was trying to avoid a vehicle that was in front of him.

“We are investigating the case to find out what actually caused the accident, but indications are that the mishap was caused by faulty brakes,’’ he said.
