A BUS driver has been arraigned before the courts charged with culpable homicide after he fatally knocked down a motor cyclist and his passenger along Chivhu-Roy Road in Masvingo.
Gorden Mutanga, 42, of Glen Norah C in Harare, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Gutu magistrate Nyasha Vhitorini on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Agatha Gabriel told how on October 6 last year, Mutanga was driving a Chiredzi-bound Higer bus along Chivu-Roy Road with 65 passengers on board.
Upon reaching the 65KM peg, Mutanga allegedly saw Alfred Rubaya riding an unregistered red LlFAN motorcycle with Douglas Mapiye on the pillion seat.
The bus and the motorcycle were moving in the same direction with the former occupying the left lane.
Rubaya intended to turn right into Moras Service Centre and while trying to do so, the court heard, Mutanga tried to overtake the motorcycle and hit Rubaya and his passenger, killing them instantly.
A post mortem on the two victims was carried out on October 7 at Gutu Mission Hospital.
The report was produced in court as an exhibit.
Mutanga was remanded out of custody to June 11.
