Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE) optometry clinic recently observed World Sight Day by offering free eye screening services to the needy and the general public.
World Sight Day is observed on October 14 each year to raise awareness about eye health and to recognise the work done by thousands of ophthalmologists across the globe to fix vision impairment.
In an interview, Chairperson of the Department of Optometry Dr Claudio Mtuwa said they were marking the day by making the public aware of the value of vision and providing the public with free eye screening.
“We are having people come in and have screening which is a basic assessment of their visual function,” said Dr Mtuwa.
“Because we intend to service a lot of people, we are mainly doing the basic screening. We are checking the elderly of the things like cataracts.”
The BUSE optometry clinic was commissioned by President Mnangagwa last year in line with the Second Republic’s vision of an upper-middle-class economy status by 2030, through an education that moulds the complete citizen capable of interacting acquired knowledge with practical skills.
