BINDURA University of Science Education has stepped up efforts to transform research into goods and services that drive economic growth in line with the national commercialisation agenda.
The university last week hosted its inaugural Renewal Investor Science, Education, Research and Innovation Week under the theme: “From Ideas to Impact-Catalysing Commercialisation and Investor Growth.”
Guest of honour, Professor Norman Takaidza, commended the President for declaring 2025 as the “Year of Commercialisation.’’
“The agenda is about transforming knowledge into products, ideas into businesses, and innovations into industries that uplift livelihoods, create wealth, and accelerate the attainment of Vision 2030,” said Prof Takaidza.
He added that while Zimbabwe has invested in Education 5.0, positioning universities as engines of innovation and industrialisation, the next step is to ensure research outputs are commercialised.
“No country develops without knowledge. We must harness the ingenuity of our students, researchers and innovators to address challenges, create employment, boost exports, and grow our economy,” he said.
Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof Christmas Denhere, said this growth positions BUSE as a strategic player in the country’s industrialisation drive.
“Innovation is now at the heart of our teaching, research, and institutional culture,” said Prof Denhere.
“Our portfolio aligns with national priorities such as software development, natural products, climate change adaptation, and chemical production.”
Among BUSE’s flagship projects are the Chiringa Monitoring and Evaluation System, Masau fruit juice production and goat genetics improvement programmes.
