WHILE reports of two people being shot dead, echoed in South Africa, during an armed robbery on a Delta Bus bound to Zimbabwe, it was business as usual at the bus’ offices in Bulawayo, with passengers oblivious of what happened on Thursday morning.
Hundreds of passengers waited for their bus to take them to South Africa, when a Zimpapers news crew arrived in the afternoon.
When they were asked if they had heard the tragic news filtering through social media, most were not aware that this was the case. However, workers at Delta confirmed that such a tragedy occurred.
The scene at the Delta station was reportedly one of typical afternoon commuter activity, characterised by the usual noise of vendors and departure announcements
This is after a Delta bus en route to Zimbabwe from Johannesburg was reportedly hijacked in South Africa this morning. Passengers were robbed, and two people were shot dead during the attack. It has also been rumoured that one of the victims who is dead had a young, disadvantaged child.
Unfortunately, the passengers who are travelling to South Africa from Zimbabwe at the moment do not know about the incident. They seemed to be a shock when Zimpapers reporter was asking around about it.
The staff members are still in shock about the whole incident, as they are carrying dull faces.
Regardless of such an incident, Delta still has its loyal customers; one customer even said, “These crooks do this every year; they are now looking for money for the festive season.”
Another customer could not hold his comment any longer and said, ‘We travel by the grace of God with these buses.”
One customer even advised fellow residents to in the afternoon when using these buses or to avoid travelling towards the festive season completely.
Bulawayo residents are still in shock. There are lingering around the Delta station, do find out if the high jack really happened or it’s just rumours.
However, some Bulawayo residents on social media are blaming the Delta for failing to tighten their security, as this has been happening for years.
