Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Hurungwe district has received a Nissan NP300 vehicle, in yet another demonstration of confidence from the private sector.
The car was donated by the Business Against Crime Forum of Zimbabwe (BACFOZ) in collaboration with the Hurungwe district crime consultative committee.
Speaking at a handover ceremony of the car to Hurungwe Urban police station last week, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Nguluve said the partnership between the force and the public helps in the attainment of national Vision 2030 to achieve an upper-middle-income economy.
Said Ass Comm Nguluve: “The donation came at a time ZRP is making strides to deliver its mandate in line with the 2021 policing theme ‘ZRP Policing For Economic Recovery And Prosperity In Pursuit of Vision 2030.’
“The theme resonates with the national vision of being an upper-middle-income economy by the year 2030. The ZRP is, therefore, mandated to create an enabling environment towards realisation of this national vision.”
Ass Comm Nguluve said concerted efforts were needed to stop crime.
“This then calls for concerted efforts by the organisation to ensure the scourge of crime is decisively dealt with. For this to happen, resources such as reliable transport and human resource are needed in the fight.”
The donated vehicle, he said, will go a long way in improving service delivery by improving scene attendance times, and increasing motorised patrols.
Ass Comm Nguluve commended the Hurungwe district police command led by Chief Superintendent Helena Mahonde for cultivating a cordial relationship with its stakeholders.
Recently, the policing district got three motorbikes and six bicycles to facilitate the ease of mobility of its members during the discharge of duties.
The bikes donations were made by tobacco firms, Voedsel and Aqua, as well as private citizens, Mr Trymore Mpaya and Mr Owen Chipangura.
