Businesses implored to be ethical

Industry and Commerce Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu has implored businesses to operate ethically to ensure enhanced growth and survival.

He said this in a speech read on his behalf by the acting director of Quality Assurance and Trade Measures, Ms Riyana Chibanda, during the launch of a book written by customer relations expert and Consumer Protection chairman, Dr Mthokozisi Nkosi.

The book is titled ‘New Generation Customer Service: The True Costs of Customer Service’.

The call to be ethical comes at a time when the market is flooded with counterfeit and under-weight products.

“It is my sincere hope that the key decision-makers in both the public and private sectors will take time to appreciate the thought-provoking work by Dr Nkosi and walk the talk on customer service.

“The adage that the ‘Customer is King’ clearly points to organisations that have to do everything possible to satisfy the needs of their customers who ultimately pay the salaries of all employees,” said Minister Ndlovu.

He said customer service is the foundation for successful business entities and if practiced well it will translate to Vision 2030 as enunciated by President Mnangagwa.

Speaking at the same event, Consumer Protection Commission chief executive officer, Professor Zororo Muranda said the launch of the book is a milestone as it is the first time a book that exclusively focuses on customer service has been launched.

Dr Nkosi said the book is a culmination of his three-decades experience in business.
