A GWANDA businessman bashed his wife accusing her of trying to kill his girlfriend using herbs, the court heard yesterday. The businessman, Thabani Mafu, 47, of Sizeze village under Chief Mathema appeared before Matabeleland South Provincial magistrate-in-charge Reuben Mukavhi facing a charge of physically abusing his wife of 22 years, Margret Muzizi, 52.
The court heard how Mafu assaulted his wife who suspected he was having an affair with a neighbour.
“On April 9, 2014 at around 7pm, the accused person came from Gwanda Town and started accusing his wife of visiting a traditional healer seeking herbs to kill his girlfriend Taboka Dlamini. The accused person then went on to pick a log from the kitchen and used it to assault the complainant all over the body,” said prosecutor Getrude Zvidzai.
Muzizi reported the matter to the police leading to Mafu’s arrest.
In another related matter, Leornard Mathuthu, 61, of 5790 Hlalani Kuhle houses in Gwanda Town also physically abused his pregnant lover, Melith Dube, 34, whom he was cohabiting with, for refusing to go back to her parents’ home.
