PROMINENT Kwekwe businessman, Mr Peter Gore, lost about US$40 000 cash after one of his sons and his accomplices broke into one of his houses.

The prominent polygamous property mogul’s son, Gillian Gore is now on the run after he broke into one of the businessman’s houses and stole US$40 000 cash and other valuables.

Gillian, together with Richard Mapundu (21) and Calvin Tuhwe, reportedly broke into one of the many houses dotted around the mining town and stole cash, which was stashed in a bag.

Gillian and Tuhwe are still on the run while Mapundu was arrested and arraigned before the courts where he was sentenced to 24 months behind bars.
Magistrate Cheryl Tembo, however, suspended three months, leaving him with 21 months effective jail sentence.

The court heard that on 15 May 2024, around 10am, the three went to house number 871 Mbizo Section 19 owned by Mr Gore together with one of his wives, Mrs Svodai Gore.

“The accused persons proceeded to the complainant’s house and upon arrival used an unknown object to force open the toilet window and gain entry inside,” the court heard.

“Whilst inside the house, they used an axe to break the bedroom door and gained access. The accused persons searched the house and took cash amounting to US$40 000, which was stashed in a bag, an I-phone 11 mobile phone and I-tel mobile phone, which were placed in the wardrobe and went away.
“Upon return from work, Mrs Gore discovered that the house had been broken into and reported the matter at Mbizo Police Station.

Investigations were carried out leading to the arrest of Mapundu who led to the recovery of US$600.

Further investigations led to Tuhwe’s residence where another US$5 200 was recovered while stashed in a refrigerator. Gillian and Tuhwe are still on the run.

Miss Ethel Bhumure represented the State.
