A MBERENGWA businessman has been arrested for allegedly shooting a man once in the hip after accusing him of stabbing his shopkeeper. Lizwe Moyo, 43, of Mberengwa New Stands suburb, appeared on initial remand before Mberengwa Resident Magistrate Tavengwa Sangster facing attempted murder charges. He was not asked to plead and was remanded out of custody on $100 bail to April 25.

Sangster ordered Moyo to report to Mberengwa Police Station every Friday, not to interfere with state witnesses and to stay at his given address until the matter is finalised.

Prosecuting, Wadzanai Shayanowako, told the court that on April 8, Francis Shumba was at a tuck shop in Mberengwa when Moyo approached him.

“Moyo approached Shumba alleging that he had stabbed his shopkeeper on April 5 and he wanted to take him to Mberengwa Police Station,” she said.

“Shumba disputed that and Moyo then drew a revolver from his waist and fired one shot in the air and the other directed at Shumba.”

The court heard that Shumba suffered gunshot injuries to the hip.

Shayanowako said Moyo then put Shumba in his vehicle and drove him to the police station, but the businessman was arrested for the shooting.

The prosecutor said a Taurus revolver and three spent cartridges were recovered and taken to the police ballistics section for forensic examination. The court heard that Shumba was referred to Mberengwa District Hospital for treatment.
