HARARE businessman, James Patrick Landon, who is facing fraud allegations, was arrested at the Harare Magistrates’ Court yesterday, for violating bail conditions.
Landon was set to appear in court on routine remand on US$1.5 million fraud allegations.
He is alleged to have interfered with one of the witnesses, and was also on an outstanding warrant of arrest, issued last week.
The court is expected to hear the case today.
Landon is facing trial for allegedly misrepresenting himself as the director of Nyasa Air Charter Limited and owning an aircraft which did not belong to him.
He is accused of deceiving the complainant, Adam Lincoln Woodington, into investing US$1.5 million towards the repair of an aircraft, which he eventually sold.
Landon is said to have misrepresented facts to Woodington in 2019 that he was the director of Nyasa Air Charter Limited.
He allegedly also misrepresented that he owned a Pilatus PC12 aircraft, and wanted a partner to enter into a joint venture to run the aircraft operations.
Woodington developed interest and invested US$1 250 000 for the repair.
It was repaired and started plying the Maputo, Johannesburg and Harare route between 2020 and last year. Landon evaded Woodington and converted the funds to his own use before disposing of the aircraft.
He managed to pay back US$1 000 000 leaving him in arrears of US$250 000.
