VILLAGERS yesterday commended a local businessman for building a classroom block and assisting some disadvantaged learners at Chemapango Primary School.

Apart from constructing a classroom block, Sky Classics director Tatenda Choruwa, donated stationery, 61 pairs of school shoes and paid fees for the disadvantaged learners.

Tatenda handed a US$2000 to the school deputy headmaster Gilbert Vhengere and another US$2000 to Chemapango Secondary School headmistress Mercy Nyakudzi towards the payment of fees for disadvantaged learners.

Representing Chemapango Primary’s School Development Committee, vice chairperson Irene Manjari said the businessman has changed life of the community and education of children.

“We want to thank Tatenda for ever developing the community that brought him to where he is today,” said Irene.

“He constructed a building block already being used before it is painted due to the need he addressed.

“Today he has wiped tears of a number of learners by paying their fees and dressing their feet in this winter season.

“As SDC we sometimes feel sorry for some parents failing to pay fees due to challenges, it is our prayer to have people like Tatenda who remembers his roots.

“Thank you Tatenda, your parents, workmates and friends around you,” said Manjari.

Ward Councillor secretary Rhoda Hakata, 45, said Choruwa placed two taps of water outside his homestead gate benefitting the community at large from two boreholes drilled at his house.

“Water is life and education is power, Tatenda is geared to empower villagers in a divine way and we commend this.

“Let this be a teaching to some villagers who made it in life.

“Community success is determined by the villagers in that society,” she said.

Deputy headmaster Vhengere paid tribute to Choruwa.

“What Tatenda has done is a real testimony of President Mnangagwa’s mantra that ‘Nyika inovakwa igonamatirwa nevenevayo’.

“He has been bringing his bricks building learners’ life.

“Today he has brought smiles not only to the teachers’ faces but the parents as well,” said Vhengere. Learners participating in various sporting disciplines received some t-shirts courtesy of Choruwa Foundation.

Tatenda who grew up in Glenview, returned to his rural village under Chief Mangwende to compliment government efforts in Education and Devolution.

Choruwa Foundation manager Bruce Skumbuzo Mangena described Choruwa as responsible.

“In Tatenda we see an African and Zimbabwean rooted in his culture,” said Bruce.

“He doesn’t want to take more than four days without visiting his village.

“His intention is to uplift the poor, open gates of success not only to his villagers but the nation at large.

“Tatenda ndewekumusha full stop,” said Bruce leaving guests in stitches.

Representing learners, Nokutenda Bonde, a junior Councilor thanked Tatenda, Choruwa Foundation, Sky Classics promising to produce better results in their academics.
