The chairperson of Vernegia Hydro Private Limited appeared in court over the weekend on theft charges.

Nomatter Mutenje was not asked to plead when she appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda.

The court heard that in November last year, Mutenje was introduced to the complainant, Tarisai Muzota, of TJB Fuels as a fuel supplier.

She was introduced by Tafadzwa Mhlanga, who is employed by Muzota as a truck driver.

Muzota allegedly engaged Mutenje to procure 50 000 litres of diesel from Beira, Mozambique, and was charged US$45 000.

On November 29 last year, Muzota is said to have paid the full amount to Mutenje.

Allegations are that Mutenje failed to deliver the fuel on demand from November 29 to date and also became evasive, prompting Muzota to file a police report leading to her arrest.
