A WOMAN from Village 3 in Fountain Farm woke up to a nightmare when a man crept into her bedroom and rubbed his manhood on her bums while groping her breasts.
The pervert, Honest Ncube (27), sneaked in through the window and slid into her bed, thinking he would get away with his vile act. But his luck ran out when the woman touched his head, realised it was not her husband and screamed in terror.
Startled, Ncube grabbed his trousers and boxer shorts before bolting out of the hut. Villagers, furious over his actions, gave chase and caught him. Before dragging him to the police station, the enraged mob gave him a thorough beating.
In court, Ncube faced charges of unlawful entry, theft and indecent assault. He pleaded guilty to sneaking into the yard but denied touching the woman. “I was drunk and strayed into her yard. I never entered the bedroom,” he argued before Bulawayo magistrate Challenge Mahembe.
However, the court did not buy his story. He was convicted of unlawful entry and theft, though acquitted of indecent assault. Ncube was slapped with a 12-month jail term, with three months suspended on condition he stays out of trouble for the next five years.
That means he will serve nine months behind bars.
In her victim impact statement, the shaken woman revealed the horror still haunts her. “I was left traumatised and thought he would rape me. The incident still haunts me,” she told the court.
The shocking case has rattled villagers, who say they want tighter security measures to stop prowlers from terrorising sleeping women.
