Busters come out tops in Sevens Summer Series

MATABELELAND Busters were the top team in the Summer Series sevens rugby tournament for southern region clubs staged at Hartsfield Rugby Ground in Bulawayo yesterday where they finished unbeaten in the four matches they played.
Busters defeated fellow Bulawayo side Western Panthers 31-14 in the final. In earlier matches they played, Busters, boasting some players who have played at national level like Lloyd Machanjaira, Jafet Ndebele as well as Lucky Sithole within their ranks and defeated Police Bulldogs 21-0, Southern Region Academy 32-0 and fierce city competitors Old Miltonians 28-0.

Panthers on the other hand saw off Zvishavane Bulls 42-7, Western Suburbs 84-0 before they went down 28-19 to Gweru Sports Club. Coached by Zimbabwe Cheetahs mentor Gilbert Nyamutsamba, Busters will be joined by Panthers, Gweru Sports Club and Southern Region Academy for the national Summer Series in Harare on Saturday and next Saturday from where a national team is going to be chosen for the Africa Cup Sevens at the end of this month in Harare.

In the capital, the southern region will come against the top clubs from the northern region who also had their own tournament yesterday at Old Hararians Sports Club.
