Busters Rugby Club are on a player recruitment drive to boost their squad. The club which has just secured their place in the Matabeleland Rugby Football Board Zimbo Cup final, were beaten by other finalists Western Panthers in the dying minutes of one of the preliminary matches. In the match they fielded 13 players instead of 15.
In the first match they played with 15 players and the following weekend they lost two players who travelled back to school which left them with 13 players for their encounter against Panthers.
Against Bulldogs in the MRFB Zimbo Cup semi-final they fielded 11 players after two more players were held up by other commitments.
Busters’ fitness trainer Sean Robinson said the team was facing serious challenges of getting players and their doors were open for new players.
“Our rugby field is under repair and of late we’re faced with a serious shortage of players as some are going back to university and some are facing challenges of travelling to Hartsfield for training,” he said.
Having secured a place in the final to defend their title, Busters will lose Justin Mendelsohn who joins his brother Bastian at The Sharks Academy in Durban, Brandon Nesbitt takes up his old position in Qatar while Paul Edmeades and Dlelo Velimpini return to their respective universities.
Robinson said their training sessions are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
“We’ll be holding our training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so any young rugby players who want to play for Busters are welcome.
“We’ve to defend our title in the MRFB Zimbo Cup this weekend so we need good players to achieve this,” he said.
