A 44-YEAR-OLD Mpopoma man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl on several occasions over a two-month period.
The man was arrested on September 16 after the girl’s mother reported the matter to the police.
According to Zimbabwe Republic Police Bulawayo deputy spokesperson Assistant Inspector
Thandekile Ndlovu, the alleged offences occurred on three separate occasions between August and early September.
Ndlovu said during the first incident in August, the girl was at home with her grandfather when the accused allegedly arrived and forced her to accompany him to his residence.
He allegedly raped her six times.
The accused allegedly returned later in August and took the girl to his residence again, where he allegedly raped her.
In the third incident, which allegedly occurred in early September, the accused allegedly took advantage of the girl after she had been left home alone and took her to his residence, where he allegedly raped her twice.
“The matter came to light after the complainant’s mother heard neighbours talking about the relationship between the accused person and the complainant,” said Ndlovu.
He said on September 15, the girl’s mother confronted the accused over the allegations, and he allegedly confessed to having sexual intercourse with the child on several occasions.
“On September 16, 2026 at around 9.10am, the complainant, in the company of her mother, reported the matter to the police and the accused person was arrested,” said Ndlovu.
The accused is expected to face rape charges.
