THE Zimbabwe Volleyball Association is bracing up for a hectic 2015 calendar. The African Volleyball Confederation “CAVB” will face a highly busy year next year full of continental events besides the condensed FIVB competition participation at all levels.
ZVA boss Frederick Ndlovu confirmed yesterday that they were eager to participate in a number of events that are lined up. He said the men’s beach volleyball team qualified recently at a tournament in Namibia to play in the zonal qualifiers.
“We hope to take part in most of the activities that are lined up. We’re happy our beach volleyball team has already qualified to the next stage which are the zonal championships,” said Ndlovu.
The 2015 CAVB Calendar includes 11 volleyball events at the age group, senior and FIVB levels apart from the Olympic qualifiers for Rio de Janeiro 2016. Beach volleyball calendar includes the different phases of the CAVB Continental Cup which also acts as an Olympic qualification process beside the first ever African qualifiers for the Senior Beach VB World Championship in Netherlands.
2015 is expected to start with the remaining three age group championships.
Tunisia will play host to the Boys’ Youth African Nations Championship from January 19-26, and afterwards Egypt will organise both Men’s Under-21 and Women’s Under-20 African Nations Championships from February 24 to March 2.
The African Club Championships will be in March and April.
This will be followed by the FIVB Club World Championships to be held in May.
The Men’s African Club Championship is pencilled for March 5-17, while the women’s will be in March 25 to April 6.
The organisers of both will be determined later.
In April and May the Zonal qualifications for the 2015 All Africa Games will be organised to qualify 11 teams in both men and women’s categories to the finals added to the hosts Congo Brazzaville.
Those matches will be played from April 15 to May 14 at various continental zones.
For the first time in the history of African volleyball, the African Nations Championships are set for May and June. Ndlovu said they were now waiting to hear from the continental body of the dates before deciding which country would host which event. — Sports Reporter/CAVB.
