APRIL will be busy on the Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union (ZLGU) calendar with two local and one regional golf tournaments scheduled from this weekend up to end of the month.
There will be the Midlands Ladies Golf Union Strokeplay Championships that tee off at Hippo Valley Golf Club in Chiredzi, the Gaby Thomlin in Harare a week later then the Regional A and B Triangular featuring Zambia, Zimbabwe and the host nation Botswana.
According to the ZLGU spokesperson Evelyn Maisvoreva, the final team to travel to Botswana will be announced soon.
Action though starts this weekend with the Hippo Valley championships where 50 golfers have already confirmed their participation.
“We are excited about the number of confirmed golfers, including the top players in the championship division like Yolanda Mubaiwa, Loice Chingono and Acey Zerf. It’s really promising to be a tournament to remember,” said the Midlands Ladies Golf Union secretary and seasoned golfer Stella Feldman.
She, together with the likes of ZLGU president Nancy Dube will compete in the B Division. Feldman attributed the huge attendance figures to transport sponsorship from Nyaradzo Funeral Services who provided a free bus for golfers from Harare.
Other players expected to take to the greens are the likes of Rodna Mutasa, Lorraine Huwa and Florence Zibomvu.
The strokeplay championship is played under the Rules of Golf as published by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews and the Local Rules as published by the Tournament Committee.
Feldman said players must be in possession of a valid ZLGU handicap certificate or overseas equivalent.
“Slow play will be penalised under rule 6 – 7. If a group loses a distance in the field of more than two holes from the group in front and this situation persists for the play of two holes, all players in the group will be penalised two strokes under Rule 6 – 7,” said Feldman.
According to part of the rules, in the event of a tie on gross, there will be a play-off over three holes one, two and 18 and if still tied then sudden death.
In the event of a tie for the runner-up in a gross event, and all net events – there will be a count back, said Feldman.
