Zimbabwe is hoping to field both the senior men and women’s teams at the regional qualifiers in South Africa next year.
The Zone Six qualifiers are tentatively set for Johannesburg from January 8 to 15, 2010.
Mozambique are hosting the All-Africa Games and have an automatic qualification while another continental powerhouse, Angola are the defending champions and will also have a certain berth at the finals,
The qualifiers for the All-Africa Games and the Afro-Basketball finals will be a dual affair and BUZ believes the preparations should start with the setting up of a technical team tomorrow.
BUZ general manager for national teams Shinga Magede yesterday revealed that Zimbabwe are now getting their preparations underway.
“We are going to announce the new coaches for the national senior teams and this part of the preparations for the qualifiers.
“The qualifiers will be held in South Africa next year but we should be getting the ball rolling now.
“This will be a dual qualification and seeing that Angola are the seeded team while Mozambique are hosts for the All-Africa games, we should have a strong chance of making it,” says Magede.
