THE Bulawayo Volleyball Association (BVA) is hopeful that they can squeeze in a tournament before the end of the year as they continue with plans for full resumption despite the threat being posed by Covid-19 on sporting activities.
The BVA league was last active in 2019 owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. During the hiatus the BVA enlisted various committees into its structures in a bid to make its brand more marketable and reach out to stakeholders more effectively.
The committees are referee’s commission, players commission, marketing commission, gender commission, coaches and corporate commissions.
To mark a return to activities, the association successfully hosted the Zimbabwe Open qualifiers which were held at White City Stadium with teams like Highlanders, Nust Vikings and tournament winners Spartans taking part.
The association now has its focus on resuming the league next year.
“Our league will not be kicking off this year but we are organising a tournament for our local teams probably before the year ends.
“Obviously as it stands, we have to assess the situation in the wake of the new covid-19 virus variant,” said BVA chairperson William Mazviro.
Meanwhile, The Zimbabwe Volleyball Association (ZVA) held their elective annual general meeting at Matopos National Park at the weekend.
Brian Manuel was retained as the association’s first vice president together with Morelet Mathema who was unanimously chosen as the Second Vice President outvoting Mercy Chatyoka 14-6.
Mathema is the chairperson of the Matabeleland South Volleyball Association.
Kudzai Muzondo went in uncontested for the Gender Minority position.
With their election they joined the national executive which has Mxolisi Ndlovu as President, Enias Kondo as Secretary-General, Farai Mboto and Mashasha as Committee Members. — @innocentskizoe
