SELECT side Bulawayo 1 were last weekend crowned champions of the Bulawayo 7s Rugby series tournament at Hartsfield Ground.

The final two rounds of the series will be played over the weekends of March 26-27 and April 2-3.

Bulawayo 1 beat another select side Bulawayo 2 28-14 in the final of the one-day event, which is part of the process to select a final 7s team to represent the province at the national championship.

Enroute to the final, Bulawayo 1 overcame Barbarians 28-5 and a Development Select 34-0 before beating Kudus 28-7 in the semi-final.

Bulawayo 2’s road to the final saw them whitewashing Kudus 24-0 in their first game and registering another 33-0 whitewash of Beitbridge in their next game before overcoming Barbarians 28-14 to book a place in the final.

In the third and fourth place play-off, Kudus were awarded the match on 20-0 walkover.

Meanwhile, there will be Under-21 15s as well as men’s and women’s 7s action on Saturday as the Brian Nyabudze Shield nears its finale.

The final round of Under-21s action fixtures involve Warriors, Highlanders, Bulldogs and Bosso.

Key players to look out for are the Highlanders’ duo of Mthabisi Moyo and Bulisani Ncube, while the Warriors will be counting on Emilio Wilson, Vuyani Ncube, Ryan Mashingaidze and Kholwani Moyo.
