PREPARATIONS for the 120th anniversary of the city of Bulawayo are at an advanced stage with various activities being lined up to commemorate the historic milestone.
The main celebrations will be held on Sunday morning with a train ride to Figtree that chronicles the journey the first train took to the city.
The train ride will be followed by a procession in the afternoon from the Bulawayo Railway Station to the City Hall car park where various artistes will converge to entertain the crowd.
Bulawayo’s renowned groups such as Cool Crooners, Black Umfolosi, Umkhathi Theatre Works and Clement Magwaza are expected to join in the celebrations and perform at the fete.
Veteran artiste Memory Kumbota will narrate the city’s past, present and future with an ensemble of artistes consisting of Sunduza, Simunye Simunye, Iluba lemvelo, Umdumo wesizwe, SPAA and CTD performing during the narration.
Today, the city will hold an inter-denominational day of prayer at the City Hall.
Other highlights include a Film and Theatre screening at Nkulumane Hall and Makokoba Hall tomorrow.
Last month, the Bulawayo Museum opened a pictorial gallery for the city, tracking its development since 1894. The National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe (NMMZ) officially opened the new gallery display which also covers some of the council’s achievements.
