‘Byo Bomber’ ready for Strauss

ZIMBABWE’S first cage fighter Elvis “Bulawayo Bomber” Moyo is geared up for his non-title bill against South Africa’s Wilhelm “Tiny” Strauss to be held this evening at Carnival City, Johannesburg.
The stocky Moyo, a former Tshaka Youth Centre pugilist who was banned from boxing in South Africa for his involvement in mixed martial arts, said the decision by Boxing South Africa has made him hungrier to make a mark in cage fighting.

Speaking from his South Africa base before yesterday’s weigh-in, Moyo said he loves every opportunity to fight in the lucrative EFC Africa mixed martial arts which stages competitions every six weeks.

“What I know is that no one can take away my talent and skill to fight in the EFC Africa. You can’t keep a good fighter down. Now that EFC continues to afford me opportunities to make a mark in this sport, I believe it’s time to repay everyone who has rallied behind me from the time I made a decision to be involved in cage fights. It hasn’t been rosy but I believe I have adjusted and have to prove that when I take on Tiny tomorrow.

“This is my time and I am going to pummel Tiny like no man’s business. I have been training hard after my defeats to Brendon Groenwald and Van Zyl which were setbacks for me as I wanted a title fight. I am geared up for Tiny who has lots of experience in cage fighting. I want to show those doubting my pedigree that I was born a champion and nothing will stop me from conquering Africa,” said Moyo.

The “Bulawayo Bomber” lost to Groenwald in May and later to Andrew Van Zyl. Moyo and Strauss’ fight will be screened live on SuperSport.

“I have been working on perfecting my ground work because if you look at my last fights my opponents got the better of me when I was on the ground.

“My coach-cum-manager Gert Strydom has been working on my ground tactics and I have to avoid going down. I have also watched some of Strauss’ videos and I know what to expect,” Moyo said.
