SOUTH Africa-based Stellenbosch forward Tinashe Makanda said he was excited about the prospect of coming up against his hometown friend Teenage Hadebe when his First Division club meets Kaizer Chiefs.
Both Makanda and Hadebe are from Bulawayo and played junior football together at Bantu Rovers. Makanda was speaking ahead of their clash last night at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Makanda later moved to Leopards, then FC Platinum reserves and then How Mine, while Hadebe’s route took him from Bantu to Highlanders and then Chicken Inn before moving to Chiefs.
“We know each other very well from our days back home,” chuckles Makanda at the mention of Hadebe.
“If it so happens that we both play it will surely be interesting because we are both well aware of each other. I think it will be an exciting duel as we represent our teams. On our part, as a team we obviously know Chiefs because they are a big team but this will be a match won by the team that wants it more on the day,” says Makanda.
Makanda announced his arrival in South Africa with a goal in his first start against Jomo Cosmos two weeks ago and will now be keen to showcase his predatory instincts on a bigger platform against Chiefs.
After missing the Soweto Derby last week due to an injury Hadebe as expected back last night. —Kickoff.co.za
