BULAWAYO Metropolitan Province’s darts team is ready to defend the National Darts Association of Zimbabwe (NDAZ) Heroes Cup which gets underway today at Kutama High School, Mashonaland West.
Bulawayo is sending four teams — two men and two women to the tournament which ends on Monday.
The City of Kings’ senior team are the holders of the prestigious cup which they won in Mutare last year.
Railstars dominate the senior team with three players Patrick Zimidzi, Bornface Maningi and Ndabezihle Ngwenya who will team up with newcomers into the side Albert Tawanda of Archers and Parkview lions’ Moses Ngwenya to defend the title.
Wilford Chitakature of Archers and School of Mines duo of Godfrey Mazondo and Elvin Taruvinga complete the title holders’ lineup.
“All our teams are ready for the trip, with our A team who’re title holders confident of defending the title. It won’t be easy and we expect a strong challenge from Midlands who stripped us of the Easter title,” said Lethukuthula Nkomo, an official from the Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Darts League.
Railstars’ Mgcini Nkala and Jackson Ndimande who were part of the senior team during the Easter tournament before being replaced by Tawanda and Ngwenya will lead the other men’s team.
Bulawayo’s hopes in the women’s category will be pinned on Beauty Sibanda, Silindile Sizalakho, Josephine Jones and Beauty Mhlanga.
Meanwhile, table toppers Railstars maintained their fine form in the league on Wednesday night beating Support Unit Fairbridge 29-10, taking their points tally to 16, two above defending champions Archers who were on a bye and have two outstanding matches.
Second placed Maison Nic kept their title hopes alive following their 31-8 win over Bellevue.
Struggling Queens pulled a shocker, recording their third victory of the season at the expense of mid-table School of Mines who they narrowly beat 20-19.
