Byo DJs venture into music making

RHYTHM Unplugged, a group from Bulawayo consisting of two well-known club deejays, Mphoe and Slomoe, is working on its first album to be released soon. The album will be a big come back for DJ Mphoe, as he has been off the radar for some time. “I have been quiet as I was working on something new. The album is a fusion of tribal and electro sounds and most of the songs are old school hits,” said Mphoe.
Mphoe and Slomoe are producers in their own right and are good instruments players. During live shows Slomoe plays live instruments and Mphoe takes to the turntables and they exchange roles every now and then. Audiences have been able to sample songs from the upcoming album during the duo’s recent shows.

“We have played some of our songs at recent shows at The Horizon and the crowd loved them, they went wild,” said Slomoe.
The talented deejays also urged fans to support them, as they have a lot to offer.

“I am a family man and I value family and friends a lot. This is a chance for my family and friends to support us. They come first to me and they should be there for me on this adventurous drive,” said Mphoe.

Mphoe wondered why fans support foreign talent, yet Zimbabwe is rich with talented deejays. Most promoters pay huge sums of money to bring South African DJs and artistes to perform yet there is a lot of talent in the country.

“Why pay $500 000 to bring a foreign dee-jay when you have me,” said Mphoe
Mphoe encouraged artistes to become tourism ambassadors saying they have the perfect platform to teach the world the goodness of Zimbabwe.

The group has a number of  gigs lined up over the weekend starting tonight at Horizon and at the same place tomorrow afternoon. They also have been well received in Harare where they performed recently.
